NEWS FROM THE EARLY YEARS UNIT

The children had a great week. Despite the cold weather they have really enjoyed
working outside.

Reception have continued their ‘Ourselves’ topic with a focus on families. They have
been reading ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. They discussed various members of their
own families as well as what they like to do. They have also been writing their own
booklets and I have seen some excellent pieces of work; I did notice one in particular that
read “This is my Daddy. He likes going in the hot tub!” They have some very interesting
ideas and I am looking forward to reading them all.

Having read the story, the teachers dressed up and acted it out for the children, who
were then able to use the stage outside to produce their own plays. I was showing some
visitors around the school at the time and they were very impressed with our acting
abilities.

They have also been learning the names for 2D shapes and have continued to learn more
letters. The children are enjoying taking books home to share with their family and
enjoyed reading some challenging words on the interactive white board for Mr Felsenstein.
The Nursery, who are focussing on Homes, also have a literacy focus and have been
reading ‘The Three Little Pigs’. The Bee Bot (the programmable robot) was dressed as a
wolf and programmed to visit all the pigs’ houses. They have listened to the story on the
amazing story phones and also drew their own houses. This linked perfectly to Kodesh -
the children were helping Avraham and Sara to pack their home up for their journey to
Israel. They also have a tent in the role play room.

There seem to be quite a few children developing temperatures at the moment. Please
be on the lookout if your child is unwell. Please check the handbook. It does not benefit
your child or the class if you send your child to school if they are poorly. If your child has
an upset tummy they should only return to school 24 hours after the last ‘incident’.
I hope you all enjoy your half term long weekend – NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY OR
MONDAY – and look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday.

*****MITZVAH DAY***** Mitzvah day is fast approaching and we have a great project
in mind this year to cheer up children in a Doctor Barnado’s home – watch this space for further information.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU READ THE NEW EARLY YEARS HANDBOOK!
- It details all you need to know. If it doesn’t please let me know and I will add amendments to the next print-run. ARRIVAL TIMES -

Please note that the gates are opened at 08.50. Reception children and their parents should assemble at the back of the building where there will be members of staff on duty. You are allowed to leave your child IN THE LINE and then leave or you can remain with your child until the bell rings at 09.00. This is an indication that the school day has started. At that point we request that the parents leave in order for us to start the day promptly. Please try not to be late as it is very disruptive to your child and the other children in the class and we need to start tefilla promptly. Nursery children wait at the front of the building with their parents. At 08.55 the front door is open and you can take your child upstairs. The Nursery day also starts at 09.00. Please try to ensure that your child is at school on time. The ‘jobs’ of the day are explained so that free-flow can start as soon as possible.

PLEASE SUPERVISE YOUR CHILDREN
. They should not be using any of resources – large fixtures or small perishables- before or after school.

Thank you for your support. I have been into all the classes (even teaching Nursery on Thursday) and have seen many very happy and engaged children learning in a range of exciting ways.

We are all looking forward to working with the children in the year ahead. Please feel free to speak to me if you have any questions/issues you would like to discuss. I can also be contacted at keremeyu@kerem.org.uk.

Wishing you all a Shabbat Shalom

Miss Burns

LOST PROPERTY
The pile of lost property in the school office is growing and growing. Please could you ensure that all your child’s school uniform and PE kit is named. We would also request that you check that you do not have any items of clothing which belong to other pupils.
